Fake Hostel – Erik Everhard – Marilyn Sugar – The Haunted Locker gets off to a dark and foreboding start, setting the tone for a rather unsettling experience. Erik Everhard plays host to a pair of unsuspecting guests, Marilyn Sugar and an unseen third, in a decrepit hostel that’s more nightmare than haven.
Things quickly take a turn for the worse as the trio gets embroiled in a series of rather disturbing and unorthodox activities that blur the lines between consent and coercion. That said, Marilyn Sugar, in particular, seems to be caught in the crossfire, struggling to assert herself in a situation that’s increasingly hostile.
The setting, too, is a character in its own right – a dilapidated, decrepit locker room that seems to be a character in its own right. Oddly enough, the cinematography is slick and polished, capturing the bleak atmosphere of the location with ease. It’s a masterclass in creating tension and unease, using the setting to ratchet up the sense of unease.
Everhard brings his inimitable brand of intensity to the proceedings, making for a rather compelling watch. His chemistry with Marilyn Sugar is undeniable, even if their interactions are often strained and uncomfortable. Worth noting, It’s a testament to the director’s skill that the tension between them feels palpable, even when the plot is feeling a little contrived.
In the end, it’s a rather dark and unsettling watch, but one that’s undeniably compelling. If you’re a fan of Erik Everhard or Marilyn Sugar, you’ll want to check this one out – and even if you’re not, the sheer audacity of the plot makes for a compelling viewing experience.
